Welcome to the Columbus, OH Pilots For Kids homepage. Learn how to get involved and participate in Pilots For Kids activities in the Columbus, OH area.
Local organizations across the United States whose mission is to help those in need have seen their budgets stretched to the brink as more and more Americans seek help amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. The Homeless Families Foundation (HFF) here in Columbus – a charity the Columbus Chapter of Pilots For Kids (P4K:CMH) has supported for many years – is no exception. This past week, the chapter purchased more than $5,000 in cleaning and education supplies to help ensure the HFF’s Dowd Education Center remains a clean, safe and supplied space for children who attend its after-school programming. The funds were taken from the $15,659 raised during the 2020 Pilots For Kids (P4K) Golf Outing.
“In a time of uncertainty and challenge, P4K:CMH and NJASAP are such a bright light. Thank you for the generosity of your group and unfailing support of our kids and families,” HFF Associate Director of Education Erin Priest shared in an email. “These items will be invaluable to making the program a success and are so much more helpful than I could adequately express. You’re helping us provide a little bit of normalcy and fun for the children in a time that is so chaotic.”
Additionally, P4K:CMH donated $2,500 to the Children’s Hunger Alliance (CHA), an organization that works throughout Ohio to provide nutritious meals to at-risk children. Since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, CHA has offered meals at pickup locations to ensure children whose only meal was previously obtained at a childcare facility and/or school has food to eat.
“P4K:CMH is honored to have been able to support the Foundation and Hunger Alliance during this exceedingly difficult time,” Chapter Coordinator Paulette Gilbert said.
With the holiday season just around the corner, P4K:CMH is beginning to plan the Annual 2020 Christmas Wish Program, which provides holiday gifts to children served by the HFF as well as those staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio (RMHC). As in years past, holiday gift requests will be collected and posted to a dedicated Amazon Wish List and shared with the chapter. Gifts will be sent to the NJASAP office where they will be wrapped and delivered to the HFF and RMHC. Current plans call for a virtual gift giving celebration with more details to come. Until then, please do not hesitate to send an email to email@example.com with questions regarding the upcoming P4K initiatives.
With a record number of both participants and funds raised, the 6th Annual 2020 P4K Golf Outing, held Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, raised more than $15,000. The event proceeds will support P4K:CMH’s Annual Christmas Wish Program that purchases holiday gifts for children served by the Homeless Families Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio; funds will also be donated to the Children's Hunger Alliance. P4K:CMH extends its sincere gratitude to all those who donated to this worthy cause.
